How Fence Installer's Process Works

When it comes time to install fencing, privacy walls, or barrier walls, you’ll want to work with a company that’s demonstrated quality work in the past.

Fence Installers has an exceptionally high rating among our customers. You can find a more detailed understanding of our services by reading the reviews left by past clients.

We’ll work closely with you every step of the way, from helping you design your precast concrete wall to installing residential fencing on your property.

The following overview will give you a basic understanding of the steps involved in this process.

1.On-Site/Area Evaluation

Our first step is to meet you at your home or the property where the precast concrete wall will be built. This gives us the opportunity to take the measurements we’ll use to give you an accurate estimate of your project’s overall cost.

We’ll also evaluate the characteristics of the property at this time. We’ll need to address certain features of your property, such as the presence of a septic system, roots from large trees, and other potential obstacles.

The on-site visit will also allow us to go over specific features with you. We’ll agree on the best location for the gate, compare exterior lighting and other security features, and discuss installing additional entryways. All of this information will be useful in helping you design your barrier wall in the next step.

2.Designing Your Precast Concrete Fences / Wall

This is where we start the creative process. We’ll use the information we gathered during the on-site visit to help you design your precast concrete wall.

In addition to meeting those requirements, we’ll create the appearance of your wall. This is an opportunity for you to choose from various design options.

In designing your wall, you can change or modify any of the following characteristics:

  • Color
  • Finish
  • Height and width
  • Shape
  • Strength

We’ll incorporate your design specifications as we draft your wall design, then send you the finished draft for your approval. Once you sign off on the design and submit a deposit, we’ll officially start working on your wall.

3.Molding and Designing Your Wall Panels

At this stage, we’ll build the molds for your precast concrete wall panels. The molds will incorporate your design specifications and meet strict quality standards. Once our quality control inspector approves them, we’ll begin pouring the concrete.

Our method includes the same standards as pouring concrete on-site, such as adding rebar and other reinforcing agents. The finished panels will remain in our temperature-controlled facility until the curing process is complete.

4.Shipping the Fence Panels to Your Property

Once the concrete has fully cured, the panels will be ready for installation. We’ll ship the finished panels to your home, where they’ll wait for our installers to erect them.

In the meantime, our Los Angeles team will install fence footings at 5-foot intervals on your property. These footings are necessary for supporting the precast concrete wall panels, a process that involves drilling holes in the ground along the proposed fence line. Footings will go into the holes and be secured with a concrete base that we’ll pour on-site.

5.Installing Your Precast Concrete Wall / Fencing Project

The final step in the process is to install your precast concrete wall panels. After each panel is removed from the delivery truck, it will be laid out on the ground on the spot where it’s to be erected. This helps us verify that every panel is accounted for.

Once we know that all the pieces have arrived, we’ll begin erecting the panels and sliding them into place, using supports to secure each one.

After positioning the panels, we’ll add a concrete cap that hides the openings where the concrete footings were previously installed. The caps complement the wall’s appearance and serve a supportive function.

Precast Concrete Wall & Fence Installation vs. Other Materials

Fence Installers has the experienced team, tools, and resources needed to add dependable, high-quality fences to your property. While a link fence, wood fence, or another type of fence may meet your basic needs, precast concrete fences offer more upfront benefits.

Since this process involves casting concrete fence panels in an off-site facility, the installation process is easier and faster. Less on-site labor will reduce installation costs and eliminate the need for intrusive construction on your property.

Conversely, iron fences or chain link fences call for more on-site work, which can complicate the installation process. While a precast concrete wall is erected panel-by-panel, chain link fences involve installing longer concrete rolls of fencing that require a larger installation team.

If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly residential fence installation that will involve a shorter installation process, a precast concrete wall is the better option.

Another reason to go with a precast concrete wall is that it forms a thicker barrier around your residential home.

A concrete wall will work as a sound barrier that reduces ambient noise in your yard. Most sounds from neighboring streets and other unwanted noises will either be muffled or canceled completely as the sound waves hit the concrete barrier.

The precast concrete panels that form your new wall will also keep your property more secure. While a criminal could easily climb a chain link fence, iron fence, or vinyl barrier, a concrete barrier is almost impossible to scale. Unless someone has specialized climbing equipment, they won’t be able to surmount your precast concrete wall.

Finally, you’ll enjoy more privacy. A chain, iron, or wood fence will leave gaps through which people can view your property. A solid concrete wall will eliminate those negative spaces, keeping your property off-limits to prying eyes.

Your fence contractor will install the panels close together to form a seamless wall of any length. Whether you have a large or small lot, a precast concrete wall will afford more privacy than other types of fencing.

How Do the Precast Concrete Fencing System Installation Cost Differ?

There are a few different ways you’ll save money when you work with a business that installs precast concrete walls.

As previously mentioned, the installation process is easier and requires less labor, saving you upfront costs compared to other types of fence installations.

Additionally, a concrete fence requires far less maintenance and repairs. You can clean a precast concrete barrier wall by simply rinsing it with a hose. For stubborn stains, pressure washing is a good treatment. Otherwise, you can enjoy the privacy and security your barrier wall provides without having to worry about upkeep.

You also won’t have to worry about repair services with a precast concrete wall. Your wall will last 50–100 years, meaning the home fence installation is probably the only expense you’ll face in adding a precast concrete wall to your property.

What Is the California Neighbor Fence Law?

Before you can begin designing a precast concrete barrier wall for your property, you’ll need to know how the relevant California laws apply to you.

Here’s a brief overview of the basic regulations outlined in the law. These factors will help you design a safe, long-lasting, legally compliant wall.

California Fence Law Height

The state’s building code requires that residential property owners obtain a building permit for precast concrete walls that are six feet or taller. The one exception to this regulation is a six-foot wall where the top two feet consist of barbed wire.

There are also restrictions on the height of your fence or wall. In terms of fencing your front yard, the wall or fence cannot be taller than 42 inches. Fencing or barrier walls on property lines you share with a neighbor must be a minimum of 60 inches. Shared barriers must also eliminate gaps large enough for young children to pass through.

Regardless, every wall or fence in your backyard must be at or under 72 inches. If your property has a swimming pool with a depth greater than 18 inches, you must also install a fence or wall surrounding the pool.
The pool’s barrier must have a self-latching gate that closes by itself, and the latch on the fence gate must be 54 inches or higher from the ground.

FAQs to Answer More California Fence Law Concerns

Chances are that you still have questions about how state building codes and fencing laws will affect you.

Many property owners have had similar concerns about these issues. By reviewing some commonly asked questions, you can gain a better understanding of California’s regulations regarding the installation of property line fences and walls.

Will Homeowner’s Insurance Cover Fence Repairs or Replacements?

You’ll notice coverage for other structures as you look over your homeowner’s insurance policy. This coverage includes the repair or replacement of an existing fence or wall.

In most policies, other structures are partially covered at a rate of 10% of the total coverage amount. For example, if you have a policy worth $250,000, you’ll be eligible for $25,000 toward your fence repair or replacement.

If you’re repairing or replacing a shared fence or wall, your insurer will only cover your share of the project. This often involves getting letters from the property owners who share the fence. The letters should specify your percentage of the ownership of the fence or wall and your financial obligations in repairing the barrier.

How California Fence Laws Will Affect Your Neighbors

Before you schedule a home fence installation or plan to repair an existing shared barrier, you must provide the affected neighbors with 30 days’ notice. That’s because California Civil Code 841 requires all affected property owners to share the costs of installing, repairing, and maintaining a shared fence or wall.

The 30-day notice you provide to your neighbors must contain specific information, including a description of the issue and how you plan to resolve it. For instance, you might want to install a new fence or wall to designate the property line or improve privacy and security.

Your letter should also include a timeline and description of the project. You’ll want to ensure that your neighbors know what they can expect during the completion of these services. Make sure you leave enough space at the bottom for your and your neighbors’ signatures.

Are Neighboring Property Owners Always Required to Share the Costs?

You might think you can save money on building a fence or wall when your neighbors have to share the expenses. While this is true in most cases, there are exemptions. For example, a neighbor can avoid their financial obligation if they can prove that the intended barrier will provide less of a benefit to them.

A neighbor may also claim an exemption if they can show that the cost associated with the project is unreasonably high. Similarly, they might be exempt if they can demonstrate financial hardship. In this case, they must be able to show that they can’t afford the added expense of installing or repairing the barrier or fence.
